LevelUp aims to build the next-generation mobile payment network, connecting users and customers in a seamless experience.
LevelUp needed to hire 100+ qualified people – effectively doubling the size of the company – and fast. They needed a partner, a solution with capabilities that could automate their processes and push their data-driven recruiting strategies forward.
Eager to make recruiting a strategic function, LevelUp utilized Lever’s reporting to uncover key insights into its hiring practices.
Using Lever Hire and Lever Nurture, LevelUp has hired 100 employees in under one year, more than doubling their employee base to reach 180 employees. They have also increased inbound applicants by 15 percent.
“Our old ATS had a reporting function, but the actual data entry was cumbersome. We also didn’t have places to store feedback, which made gathering insights from hiring decisions impossible.”

Prioritizing data-driven recruiting
Though LevelUp had an applicant tracking system in place, its value to the organization was severely limited. “We couldn’t even use the ATS to reach out to candidates,” noted Recruiter Pat Morey. “I had to keep manual lists of where people were in the process when I needed to reach out to them, and I also had to manually email resumes to hiring managers.”
The team sought out a replacement system that would make their recruiting function strategic, collaborative, and above all, data-driven.
“Our old ATS had a reporting function, but the actual data entry was cumbersome,” Pat remembers. “We also didn’t have places to store feedback, which made gathering insights from hiring decisions impossible.” Moving forward, it was important for their system to have a rich feature set with intuitive functionality, so that accurate data could be tracked and reported.
With Lever, recruiters can pull data for hiring managers the moment they ask about it. “My favorite metric is interview calibration. Lever shows us pipeline speed, where candidates are coming from, and where candidates are getting caught. We can actually make adjustments to improve future processes,” marvels Pat. And indeed, they have elevated their hiring
success. In the last 11 months, they’ve grown from 80 to more than 180 employees.
LevelUp has even utilized Lever’s reporting to craft job postings that attract promising candidates. They’ve increased their number of inbound applicants by 15 percent – to over 5,000 in a seven-month period – through A/B testing job posting titles and descriptions. “With unlimited job postings, we can easily write two versions of a job description, measure which delivers the most quality candidates, and stick with the most effective,”Pat shared.
Lever’s collaboration features like feedback forms, Gmail sync, and the @-mention feature help engage the LevelUp team in hiring activities. Today, hiring managers are so involved that they sometimes use Lever Nurture’s ‘send for’ feature to reach out to candidates on their recruiter’s behalf. When a hiring manager wants to move forward with a candidate but their recruiter is busy, they can, because they already know every detail of their candidate’s trajectory. “Lever allows us to hold each other accountable. Every team member can see all outreach to candidates,” reports Director of Talent Jennifer Paxton.
It took trying another system for Button to realize how much Lever had improved their hiring processes.
